Magician Andy Kean knows magic is all about the moment.
The Kohimarama man's life has two entirely different tracks.
In one he holds a corporate job, in the other a deck of cards.
Andy has just returned from Melbourne's McBride Magic and Mystery School.
It was founded and is run by Las Vegas headliner Jeff McBride and his teacher Eugene Burger.
They only take their school on the road once a year, when invited magicians can attend.
The magicians' world is not nearly as secretive as it's portrayed.
The industry has journals and magazines and online communities where many illusions are revealed.
Andy says it's safe to do that because there is a difference between knowing how something is done and doing it.
The emotional experience of magic is what makes it special, not the tricks, he says. And he also believes in quality not quantity.
In Melbourne he met magic legend Lennart Green and performed his favourite trick, The Las Vegas Miracle.
"I guess you could say I have performed with the world's best," Andy says.
Now Andy wants to share his magic at home.
He is currently straddling his two worlds by doing corporate magic shows and appearing at restaurants.
Worlds merge like magic
